Dogs and grading
See where every dog in training is at, grade skills, and move dogs through their programme.
Dogs shows every dog in training, where it is and what it needs next.
Layouts
Switch layout at the top of the page:
- At a glance: a card per dog with its programme, latest grades and what’s next. The quickest way to see where your own dogs are.
- Table: one row per dog, easy to sort and scan.
- Board: a tab per programme and a column per programme session. Drag a dog to the next column as it moves on.
- Progress: a grid of dogs against skills, coloured by score.
Filter by programme, by trainer, or by Whose dogs to see only yours.
Grading
Every dog is graded on the 13 core skills (name response, sit, down, stay, recall, leave it, drop, wait, loose lead walking, greeting people calmly, settle, dog neutrality, and handling and grooming), plus the skills in its programme. Each skill is scored from 0 to 10 against the target set in the programme. The Grading guide (under Training) says what each score means for every skill, from 5 (reliable at home) to 10 (proofed anywhere, for any handler). Choose a score while grading, or click one anywhere, to see it. Grade from a session when you Finish off, from a dog’s page, or tick several dogs on the Dogs page and choose Grade together. Book a session works the same way for a group. Add notes and photos or videos so the owner sees what you saw.
Grades show straight away on the dog’s page and in the owner’s Handlr app. Owners’ own self-grades are shown separately and never change yours.
Homework
Set practice between sessions from a session or a dog’s page, from your Homework library or written from scratch. Owners tick off each day in Handlr and tell you how it went. Their updates show on Today for you to review. When an owner sends a video, leave a comment pinned to a moment in it, and the owner is notified. Homework in the main menu lists everything you’ve set, and each piece has its own conversation, so you and the owner can talk it through back and forth.
Kennelworks badges
The Kennelworks badges card on a dog’s page shows how close it is to Foundations, Intermediate, Advanced and Elite: every core skill at 5, 7, 9 or 10 respectively, with Advanced and Elite needing those grades on two different days. Your own shared grades from the last 12 months count towards it. Once they meet the criteria, choose Award. The badge shows on the owner’s Handlr profile and on any sale listing, and stays with the dog if it changes hands. You can revoke a badge your business awarded, with a reason.
Pedigree
The Pedigree card holds the registered name and number, sire, dam and health tests. The owner, or your business for your own dogs, fills it in. Choose Verify next to a detail you’ve checked, and it shows as verified by your business.
Progress reports
From a dog’s page, choose New progress report, pick the period and the skills to include, and Send to the owner. They get an email and see the report in Handlr. For buyers or vets without a Handlr account, make a link anyone can open, and turn it off at any time. Download PDF on a report gives you a copy in your branding to print or attach.
